Front Club Defense - Tonfa-No-Waza

The technique shown below is illustrated in my book  Modern Self Defense for the 21st

WARNING

Techniques against weapons, especially firearms should only be attempted by experienced martial artists who have practiced these techniques for many years, or when you are certain that your life is in imminent mortal danger.

The following is only a sample of one Jujitsu weapon defense technique. I encourage you to further study under a qualified instructor.

Note: All techniques should be learned under the guidance of a qualified Jujitsu instructor. Care must be taken to ensure that Tori does not strike Uke. Kicks, and strikes must stop 6 inches short of the target. Additionally, only throw Uke onto a surface specifically designed to absorb such impact and only after proper break falls have been learned.

Key points to remember when practicing this technique

Blunt Objects

Self-defense against blunt objects such as sticks, bats, or any other blunt object is generally best defended against, by first of all, staying out of range of the weapon. Secondly since your legs are longer than your arms, kicks aimed at your opponent from the waist down generally will stop any advancing movement. Look at the focal part of your opponent, slightly above the solar plexus, not the eyes. From here you can see all of your opponent's movements and respond accordingly. Finally you want to get inside the weapons perimeter and then use modern jujitsu techniques shown in this web site to bring your opponent to the ground.

Uke attempts to strike Tori with a right swing of a club. Tori steps in with the right foot and blocks the arm with a Morote-Mawashi-Uke (double round house block). Tori secures the wrist with the right hand and wraps the left arm around the right. Stepping forward with the right foot, Tori throw Uke with O-Soto-Gari and finishes with Kansetsu-Geri (stomp kick).

Remember, without safety, there can be no Jujitsu.

Before beginning any martial art practice, you must always know primary rule.
