Flynn is a graduate of
Bergen Community College (AS)
and William Paterson
University (BA).
Rankings
He
began his formal Martial Arts training in
Kokushi Jujitsu
in 1983 under
Professor Fuersich (Bergen Community College). He currently studies at the
International Kokushi-Ryu Jujitsu Association located in New York under Soke
Higashi. He received his Shodan in 1990. Instructor Flynn currently holds the
rank of Fourth Degree Black Belt (Yodan) in Kokushi-Ryu Jujitsu.
He also holds the rank of Fourth Degree Black Belt (Yodan) in USJA
Jujitsu. In addition to Jujitsu ranking, he holds the rank of Second
Degree Black Belt (Nidan) in USJA Judo.
He currently holds a Class A
National Certified Jujitsu Referee certification.
In
1998, He co-authored the book Self Defense for the 21st Century. The
book is currently on it's fourth printing.
Teaching
Instructor
Flynn was a Jujitsu instructor at William Paterson University.
He also ran the Kokushi Adult Jujitsu class at the Wyckoff YMCA from 1995
to 1998. He conducts lectures, and specialty Self-Defense seminars and assault /
rape prevention classes for women. In addition to his martial arts training, Mr.
Flynn is a personal trainer.
Currently
Mr. Flynn teaches Judo and Jujitsu at the Lake Norman YMCA in North Carolina. Competitions
- Retired from active competitions.
Chu-Sempai Flynn
did participate in the 48th 50th, and 52nd International Kokushi Jujitsu Shiai in the
Fall on 2000, 2001 and 2002 taking first place in all three tournaments in Batsu-Jujitsu (sword competition).
Previous to that, he placed in the Garden State Games (New Jersey) as
a shodan (black belt), and captured 2nd place finishes in both Kumi-Uchi
and Ne-Waza Shiais (competitions) (shodan division). Additional
accomplishments include first place finishes in Technique, Kata and Tanto
(knife) competitions. Future
Continued studies of Kokushi Jujitsu as well as writing and lecturing
and looking to open another school
to instruct children (as well as adults).
