The technique shown below is
illustrated in my book Modern Self Defense for
the 21st
WARNING
Techniques against weapons, especially firearms should only be
attempted by experienced martial artists who have practiced these
techniques for many years, or when you are certain that your life is in
imminent mortal danger.
The
following is only a sample of one Jujitsu weapon defense technique. I
encourage you to further study under a qualified instructor.
Note:
All techniques
should be learned under the guidance of a qualified Jujitsu instructor.
Care must be taken to ensure that Tori does not strike Uke. Kicks, and
strikes must stop 6 inches short of the target. Additionally, only throw
Uke onto a surface specifically designed to absorb such impact and only
after proper break falls have been learned.
Key points
to remember when practicing this technique
Sharp Objects
Self-defense against sharp objects such as
knives, picks, broken bottles, and other sharp items pose a different
danger in that they may severely injure the victim if used successfully.
Again, the legs in the form of kicks as opposed to hands are the better
choice. If possible, wrap a jacket, shirt or towel or other piece of
clothing around the blocking forearm. Double blocks as well as cross
blocks may be used to defend yourself. Once inside the perimeter of the
weapon, you may use modern Jujitsu techniques to disarm your opponent.
Uke strikes downward with the
knife in the right hand. Tori steps forward with the right foot and
blocks with Juji-Uke (cross block) (left hand over right). Stepping
forward with the left foot, Tori secures the wrist with Ude-Gaeshi while
throwing with O-Soto-Gari. Tori finishes with a Gedan-Tsuki (low punch)
to the head.
Remember, without safety, there can be no
Jujitsu.
