Hand Striking Techniques - Te-Waza

Te-Waza is a subgroup of Karada-no-buki.  Translated, Karada-no-buki means using the body as a weapon.  The primary parts of the body that can be used are the head, hand, arm, elbow, leg and  feet.

Their are dozens of different hand strikes available in Jujutsu. Here I focus on the Hand (Te) strikes most commonly used.

  1. Fist (ken)

  2. Palm Heel (Shotei)

  3. Crescent Hand (Mikazukite)

  4. Spear Hand - (Nukite)

  5. Knife Hand - (Shuto)

Fist - Ken Palm Heel - Shotei Crescent Hand - Mikzukite
Roll your fingers tightly inward then bring your thumb over them. Open your hand, bending it backwards.  fingers can be spread apart but I recommend keeping them tightly together. Keep the 4 fingers and the thumb separated from each other (similar to a lobster claw).  Keep your palm facing downward.

Spear Hand - Nukite Knife Hand - Shuto
Extend all the fingers together keeping the joints bent slightly. Extend all the fingers together keeping the joints bent slightly.  Bend the thumb inward.
