As I began teaching women self defense classes, it
became apparent that modern day society held different challenges and
dangers. Not only does one need to know how to physically defend them
self and their family from danger, but one must also be aware of how to
avoid danger as well.
From that one thought this book started to take form. Modern day society
places people at risk. Knowing these risks and how to minimize them
would give a person a greater advantage. I started researching and
interviewing people and sought out the guidance of my original
instructor, Bernard Fuersich. Combining our skills, this book took
focus.
We addressed modern day issues such as road rage, stalking, home and
campus safety. Additionally we addressed internet safety and domestic
and work violence.
The end result was not just another martial arts
book on self defense, but a broader guide on how to conduct and avoid
danger.
We did the photo shoot at Bergen Community College
with the participation of students from both Bergen Community College
and the Wyckoff YMCA.
I would once again like to thank those students who volunteered their
time to help make this book reality.
Of special note is Scott
Cahill, who did the photography.
