Formal Wepons

Different schools emphasize different weapons.  However certain core weapons can be directly linked to Jujitsu.  It is these weapons that I list below.

Katana - Sword

Katana are distinguished from broadswords for the extremely sharp edge and the slightly curved blade. The beauty of a katana appears on its blade, edge, tsuba, saya, and tsuka.

Tanto - Knife

Often tucked away within the gi to be used for close combat or when the Katana could not be used.

Boken - Wooden sword / knife

Wooden blade for practicing kata. Often used as a practice weapon in the art of Kenjutsu.

Staff

Wooden pole, ranging from 4 to 6ft. originating from poles used by laborers to carry heavy loads.  Note that the smaller staffs are often called Jo.

Before beginning any martial art practice, you must always know primary rule.
